Make-Up For The Big Day

Romantic make-up for your wedding day

If you’re having a traditional wedding with a classic wedding look then you’ll most probably want pretty, romantic make-up. Here are our tips on what products are best to use.

Apply a primer

A must-have for every bride. Applying primer will sooth your skin and help your make up stay perfect all day. Try L'Oréal Paris Studio Secrets Smoothing Resurfacing Primer, inspired by professional make-up artists, this primer masks wrinkles and uneven textures in the skin.

Prepare

Applying a light moisturiser before your base will create a smooth, clean surface for make up to stay on longer.

Oily Skin

Dr Nick Lowe Oil Control Day Cream is a light and easily absorbed daily moisturiser with UV sunscreens to help regulate surface oils and deliver ultimate hydration and blemish control. Perfect!

Dry Skin

This day cream from Lancome intensely moisturises and lastingly soothes the skin, leaving it soft, smooth and radiant.

Concealer

Next use a long-lasting concealer on any redness, spots or uneven areas, such as Rimmel London Hide The Blemish Concealer, £4.29. Pat into the skin gently, don’t rub and make sure your hands aren’t too warm as this will effect the temperature of the product and can change its setting.

Foundation

Next apply your foundation, the less base the better. Studio Fix foundation from MAC provides medium buildable coverage and flawless natural-matte finish. Includes SPF 15 for everyday sun protection. Best applied with a foundation brush. Perfect coverage for the special day.

Powder

Powder is the most imporant product. It will keep the coverage on your face and take away shine and grease. Brush over t-zone and eyelids, to create a great base for eye shadow.

Transparent

This translucent powder from MAC is a dream. Suitable to all types and tones of skin, apply with brush or powder puff after foundation for matt, gorgeous skin.

Blusher

Rosy pink colours are best on the cheeks. Try Bobbi Brown's award winning blusher. Start by applying just on the apples of your cheeks and then blend upwards towards your temples.
We adore shades neutral Desert Pink and pop Pale Pink.

Eyes

After adding definition to your brows, make sure your lashes stand out without looking clumpy or crusty. A great lengthening mascara will do the trick but individual eyelashes will give them that extra boost. We like hypnose waterproof mascara from Lancôme which makes your lashes look sky high and is waterproof, an essential for the big day!

Eye Shadow

We love this eye shadow surge by Clinique. All the perfect shades for a wedding, four classic shadows suitable for all skin types perfect for the big day.

Natural is best

Be careful how you line the eyes. Too much eyeliner can look heavy and harsh. Experiment with brown, grey and dark green kohl rather than black, for a softer look. Nars Cosmetics eyeliners have rich pigments of longwearing colour, which leave a velvety-smooth finish.

Eye liner blender

Blend your harsh eye liner to make it more subtle for your special day and other occasions with No7's precision eyeliner brush.

Colour Guide

If you have brown eyes go for peachy brown colours. If you have green eyes try frosted coffee colours and warm golds. If you have blue eyes go for pinks and lilacs.

Lips

Use a thin layer of your usual foundation to your lips before applying final colour for a good base and more staying power.
Try and stick to a neutral rosey colour which isn't too light, as pale lip colours can look washed out in photograph. Create bright, romantic lips with soft plum, coral and pink shades.
The rule is, it's either the eyes or lips, not both. If your eyes are going to be smokey for example, keep your lipstick a natural colour.
Never choose a lip color more than a couple of shades lighter or darker than your skin tone.
