Madonna appears in Roman holiday

A wedding party had Madonna as an unexpected guest and the pop star even had a few words to say to the bride and groom.

Britons Imogen and Neil McCarthy were having their post-wedding meal on Rome's Hotel De Russie's terrace when the pop star arrived for a candlelit dinner with her husband.

Even though the 70-strong party recognised the star, the wedding DJ said that "they all behaved with typical British reserve" and did not approach her.

Despite annoyance at the DJ daring to play one of her records, Madonna went up to congratulate the happy couple, thought to be from Cardiff.

Madonna was in Rome as part of her Confessions tour while the couple had decided to celebrate their wedding in the city at the weekend.

Wedding DJ Luca Lacovello added that "Madonna was completely unexpected and it was an added bonus for their wedding day".
